Arrowmoon District Units are invited to join in “Celebrating a Century of Service” for the Sam Houston Area Council’s 100th Birthday at the 2014 Scout Fair which will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10 am – 3 pm. Scout Fair offers units the opportunity for Council-wide fellowship and a forum to showcase their many Scouting skills. The planning and teamwork used to create booth displays provides Scouts many program and learning opportunities. Scout Fair is FREE and a fun event for the entire family.

SCOUT FAIR COUPON PACK SALES: This is a fantastic fundraiser! Selling Scout Fair Coupon Packs provides a great fundraising opportunity for your unit and allows Scouts to fund Scouting programs and activities by “earning their own way.” Each Coupon Pack sells for only $10 offering over $600 in savings. When Scouts sell 15 or more Coupon Packs, they’ll earn the Super Salesman Patch, qualify for entry in weekly drawings and earn great prizes from the Scout Fair Coupon Pack Prize Brochure. All units receive a 30% base commission for each $10 Scout Fair Coupon Pack sold with funds turned in on or before April 12, 2014.

Basic Info – The “Coupon Pack” is a booklet of coupons valued at over $600 in savings. Each pack sells for $10. Your Unit may reserve store-front selling times for the Kroger’s stores in Bryan and College Station.

Coupon Pack Kick-Off – The Arrowmoon District Coupon Pack Kick-Off will be held at the College Station Larry J. Ringer Library in the front room on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 from 7-7:45 pm. Coupon packs and support materials will be distributed at this meeting to all Unit Scout Fair Chairs. Your sales may begin on Feb. 1, 2014! If you are unable to attend this kick off, please be sure to have your Scout Fair Chair attend the Feb. Roundtable to register and pick up your Scout Fair and Coupon Pack materials.

Kroger Store-Front Selling Reservations – IMPORTANT: In order to sell Coupon Packs at Kroger you MUST reserve a date, time and store location through the Arrowmoon District Scout Fair Chair, NOT through the SHAC website. DO NOT contact Kroger managers directly and DO NOT register on the SHAC website. There is always a problem with communication from SHAC to our local Kroger stores, so the only way to ensure the local stores know your unit is coming and we are not double-booked with other groups is to register through me. Only units with confirmed Kroger locations may sell Coupon Packs at that location. If your unit would like to sell at Kroger please contact Catherine Utsler at caudean@gmail.com with your Unit Number, Unit Type, and Scout Fair Chair Contact information (email and phone).

Commissions and Incentives – Your unit receives 30% base commission on Coupon Pack sales for monies turned in by Scout Fair, April 12, 2014. You can earn an additional 10% commission if your Unit participates in Scout Fair either by hosting a booth or participating as a Service Unit at Scout Fair. In addition, there are early turn in dates that will allow your Unit to earn even more extra commission up to a maximum of 45%! As if that isn’t enough, Scouts will qualify for entry in weekly drawings and earn great prizes from the Scout Fair Coupon Pack Prize brochure.

REMEMBER: Scouts that attend Scout Fair, participate at Scout Fair, or sell Scout Fair Coupon Packs, receive a participation Scout Fair segment to complete the Centennial Star in celebration of SHAC’s 100th birthday. Sell 15 Coupon Packs to qualify for the Super Salesman Patch (one Super Salesman Patch per Scout. No combining of sales between Scouts.)

SCOUT FAIR BOOTH AT RELIANT ARENA: Scout Fair is the largest gathering of its kind and offers something for everyone from games and outdoor cooking to an Advancement Midway and educational displays.

Basic Info – To host a booth at Scout Fair your Unit must register by March 28, 2014. To register go to:

Summer Camp Information

Hello All

Many of you are asking for Summer Camp dates. They are here and I hope they work for all of you. We will be going to San Isabel Scout Ranch for merit badge camp and Rocky Mountain High Adventure for high adventure camp July 13th through the 21st. Both camps are in Colorado about 2 hours apart so we will travel together as a Troop Saturday and Sunday before and after.

We will need to start getting commitments soon so that we can have enough space reserved. Final payments for the camps will be due by sometime in March with a partial payment due in January.

Cost
San Isabel Scout ranch $240 per scout paid on time
Rocky Mountain High adventure $425 per scout paid by March 1
Travel cost for either camp will be approximately $150 due by July 1st

I will get out more information on deadlines after Thanksgiving but please be considering which camp you will want to go to and let me know.

Flags for 2013 Subscriptions have begun!

Boy Scout Troop 802 would like to invite you to participate in Flags Across College Station. By subscribing you will have an American Flag displayed at your home 6 times a year. The yearly subscription is only $30.

For each flag purchased, a small “flag-yard holder” (an 8″ PVC pipe) will be installed for easy access and for future flag display approximately 18″ or less from the curb.

Subscription deadline: 2 weeks before first holiday to assure placement on first holiday.

New Eagle Mentor progam

Hello All,

I would like to announce the beginning of a new Eagle Scout Mentor program in Troop 802. We will kick this off with a meal to introduce mentors to our current Life Scouts on October 22, 2012 at 6:15. If you are a Life Scout or almost a Life Scout I would like to invite you to attend this meal before the scout meeting on that day. I hope that you all will be able to make it.

I would also like to invite all Eagle Scouts from Troop 802 to participate in this program. (If you know of an Eagle scout from another Troop that would like to participate we will certainly welcome his participation) Your participation does not mean that you have to be at every Troop meeting. Your job will be to make periodic contact with one or more scouts to mentor and encourage them along the path to Eagle Scout. You never know if your interaction with a scout will be the difference of that scout going on to complete his Eagle or not. I have talked to a few who have agreed to participate but I don’t know who all is in town so if you know of any of the guys that are in town could you please pass this on.

Again the kickoff event will October 22, 2012 at 6:15 in the Fellowship Hall at A&M United Methodist Church. Dinner will be served. Please RSVP to wmccollum@am-umc.org so that we will have enough food.

Citizenship in the World Opportunity

Those of you who are working on your Eagle-required Citizenship in the World Merit Badge have an opportunity to meet some of those requirements in an easy and interesting way.

Ambassador Sirchan Siv will be speaking at the Bush Library on Saturday, November 10. Here are the details:

Event Schedule

*9:15 AM- Those from Troop 802 will meet in fountain/garden circle area in front of the Bush Library. We will enter the library and be seated as a group, following Library staff directions. Each Scout/family will need to arrange their own transportation to the Bush Library. Note that you will be able to buy discounted tickets to the library’s exhibits for that day.

9:30 – Doors open at the George Bush Library. Bush Library staff will be available to direct guests to the Bush Library theater. Scouts and Scout leaders will be seated to the front and parents and siblings will be seated to the rear.

9:55 – Pledge of Allegiance and Scout Oath led by Scouts.

10:00 – Remarks by Ambassador Siv followed by Q&A with the audience Ambassador.

10:45 – Event concludes. Ambassador Siv will proceed to the rotunda to inscribe copies of Golden Bones. Scouts and their families are then invited to visit the George Bush Library for the group discount of $5.00 per person.

Event Details

Location: The event with Ambassador Siv will take place in the theater at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum on the campus of Texas A&M University.

Parking: Free parking will be available at the George Bush Library. Please park in lot PA41 or PA43. Please see http://transport.tamu.edu/parking/maps/campus.pdf for further information.

So please reply back by Oct 20 *IF* you are going and how many are going. If you’d like more details, please ask- I’ll answer what I can. I can’t provide a concrete list of what requirements will be met, as I do not know exactly what Ambassador Siv will be talking about.
